SEND Mission Statement

Inclusion & SEND Vision & Mission Statement

At Archbishop Benson School, we are ambitious for all of our children. We recognise and celebrate that each child is an individual. We view difference and diversity as a resource and an opportunity.

Our vision for our children who have a Special Educational Need/Disability is to successfully include them in our over-arching Archbishop Benson curriculum.  Their inclusion is an unending process of increasing their learning and participation over time.  We aim to achieve this by recognising and harnessing their strengths, gifts and talents.

“Every child has a different learning style and pace. Each child is unique, not only capable of learning but also capable of succeeding” - Robert John Meehan

We are committed to an equitable SEND offer where every child with SEND receives the support and intervention that is fair for them.

As a school we have a clear approach to identifying and responding to SEND.  We work in partnership with parents and carers to establish the support the child needs.  It is particularly important in the early years that there is no delay in making any necessary special educational provision.

SEN Support builds on high quality teaching which is personalised and accessible for individual children and should be firmly based in our setting’s approach to monitoring the progress and development of all children.

SEN Support is designed to provide a graduated approach based on a cycle of action that can be revisited with increasing detail, increasing frequency and with the increased involvement of parents and carers. Throughout the graduated approach, the teacher remains responsible for working with the child on a daily basis and implements agreed interventions, as outlined on the child’s Individual Provision Map. The Inclusion Team supports the teacher, where necessary and co-ordinates the graduated approach across our setting.

We have a vibrant, caring and supportive Inclusion Team consisting of:

Inclusion Lead – Mrs Jen Barnard

SENCO – Mrs Jo Williams

Inclusion Manager – Mrs Tracey Brereton

Inclusion HLTA (Higher Level Teaching Assistant) – Mrs Charlotte Coldham-Wood.

The team ensure the following:

  • That the right support is put into place for your child. This can take the form of in-class support and/or targeted individual/group support.
  • Liaise with teaching staff, to ensure they are aware of your child’s needs and that appropriate strategies and differentiated work has been put in place.
  • Work closely with you, to share progress and targets, with the opportunity to arrange an appointment whenever necessary.
  • When appropriate, to work with other professionals, e.g. Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Educational Psychologists, etc.
  • We will do everything we can to ensure that your child makes good progress within the framework of the school curriculum.
