Vision for Computing at Archbishop Benson C of E School
"I can do all things through Him who strengthens me"Â (Philippians 4:13)
"With fun and learning, hand in hand, all things are possible."
At Archbishop Benson, we believe that with curiosity, creativity, and care for others, all things are possible. Our computing curriculum empowers every child to become a confident and capable user of technology, exploring how it shapes the world around them and learning to use it responsibly both now and in the future. We provide engaging, hands-on experiences that allow pupils to explore, create, and problem-solve using a range of digital tools. Children are encouraged to experiment, make mistakes, and persevere, developing resilience and independence as they learn how technology works. These experiences give pupils a strong foundation in digital skills that support learning across the wider curriculum.
Throughout the school, pupils develop their knowledge of computer systems, programming, digital media, and data. They learn to create and refine simple programs, organise and interpret information, and communicate ideas effectively using technology. They are supported to think logically, evaluate outcomes, and reflect on ways to improve their work. Computing is also used to solve real-world problems and enhance learning in other subjects, reinforcing the relevance of technology in everyday life.
Online safety is central to our curriculum and closely linked to our commitment to our school values. Pupils are taught to use technology safely, respectfully, and responsibly, understanding the impact of their actions on others. They are encouraged to think carefully about how they communicate online and are guided to make informed, ethical choices and communicate thoughtfully in digital spaces.
Our curriculum shows clear progression year on year. Pupils revisit key concepts, build on prior learning, and are immersed in computing vocabulary to confidently discuss technology. Lessons are carefully planned to provide appropriate support and challenge, ensuring all children experience success and take pride in their achievements. Communication and oracy are also integral to computing, and pupils learn subject-specific language, explain processes, collaborate with peers to articulate their thinking. This strengthens their ability to engage with complex ideas and prepares them for future learning.
Our goal is for every child to leave Archbishop Benson as a thoughtful, responsible digital citizen, equipped with the skills, knowledge and confidence to thrive in secondary education and beyond. We aim to nurture curiosity, creativity, and care in digital spaces, ensuring all pupils can use technology wisely and imaginatively in an ever-changing world.
