Vision for Music at Archbishop Benson C of E School
‘I can do all things through Him who strengthens me’ (Philippians 4:13)
‘With fun and learning, hand in hand, all things are possible.’
Music is at the heart of life at Archbishop Benson school, with numerous opportunities throughout the school year in which to celebrate our music-making. Weekly singing assemblies encourage a love of collective performing, whether that be as part of our Christmas concerts, many services, school choir and Eucharists or Class assemblies.
Whilst every child has the chance to partake in whole school performing, there is also the chance for children to learn instruments with one of our excellent peripatetic teachers who currently offer Violin, Flute, Guitar, Drum, Piano, Trumpet and Voice lessons. To celebrate this musical excellence, we hold termly recitals in which we have solo, group and ensemble performances which are always well attended.
We currently have an excellent school choir who have enjoyed performing in the local community and at county-wide events such as Songfest 2020.
Music is taught at Archbishop Benson school according to the National Curriculum, focussing on the three main facets of Music; Listening, Composing and Performing. From Reception through to Year 6, children are given the opportunity to explore these strands either through their current class topics or by bespoke music lessons and experiences.
School uses Charanga scheme to support learning music.
