Music is taught within the school through a range of discreet lessons, cross curricular activities and whole school music opportunities. In KS1, the core skills of finding a beat, repeating melodic phrases and gaining control over pitch are woven into a range of musical activities. These include keeping the beat in a piece of music, playing singing games, creating musical stories and dancing. In KS2 children extend these skills through music appreciation, performance and composition. In addition, from year 3 onwards, children are taught how to read simple music notation and have the opportunity to play a tuned instrument such as the ukulele, glockenspiel or flute.
