The School Games Mark Silver Award
We are absolutely delighted to have just been awarded the School Games Mark Silver Award for the 2016-17 year. The School Games Mark is a Government led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust, to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community. We are delighted to have been recognised for our success.
As part of our application, we were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas of participation, competition, workforce and clubs, and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded this year. Well done to all the children and staff.

The gymnasts thoroughly enjoyed the competition and even got to learn and practise new skills with some of the coaches that were there! We can’t wait to compete again next year!

Last Thursday (16th March 2018) 12 pupils attended the County Cross Country Finals, held at Newquay Sports Centre, in very gruelling conditions. The weather was particularly cold with heavy rain showers and the ground was the muddiest that we have ever known. The children ran amazing well and were representing the Peninsula Area. Unfortunately the runners were not given place cards as they crossed the finish line, so we do not yet have the results of all the Archbishop Benson athletes.
Below are the children that competed and the positions that we can confirm:
Lara H 3rd
Saffron Jenkins 14th
Amelie G 34th
Myles R 3rd
Alfie Tai 17th
Tom Robilliard 26th

Overall the Peninsula teams came 3rd in the y4 boys and year 4 girls. They also came 1st in the y5 girls and y6 boys.
I would like to say a huge well done to all the runners and thank you to all the family members who came to support. This is the most children we have ever taken to the county finals and I am so pleased with their perseverance, team spirit and support for each other.
That brings us to the end of the cross country season and we now look forward to athletics, in the summer term – hopefully with some warmer weather.

Truro Schools Girls Football Tournament
On Friday 23rd March, our two girls football teams went to Richard Lander to take part in the Truro schools girls football tournament. It was a great afternoon’s football in the pouring rain! Both of our teams did exceptionally well. Our A team won the whole tournament, beating St Marys in the final, and our B team came 3rd. Mr Sims was incredibly proud and impressed with the girls’ attitude and determination. Congratulations to all of the girls and thank you to Mr Sims, Mrs Fleet and Mrs Glanville.
Rugby with Cornish Pirates
On Sunday 25th March, our Year 6 rugby team enjoyed being part of Cornish Pirates’ rugby match against London Scottish. It was a fantastic day out for all of us and an amazing experience for the children. We witnessed an excellent game of rugby and a Pirates’ win filled with lots of tries. We were part of the guard of honour at the beginning of the game and Florrie and Joe were mascots, running out onto the pitch with the players. Perhaps the highlight was when we played an exhibition game of tag rugby on the pitch at half time. The children all did extremely well! Thank you so much to all of the parents for bringing their children to Penzance and helping to make it such a special day.
On Wednesday 18th April 2018, our Tri-Golf team took part in the Peninsula qualifier for the Cornwall School Games at Truro Golf Club. The children did brilliantly and came 2nd overall. Rosewarne Shield East Cornwall Final
On Thursday 10th May, our boys’ football team travelled to Grampound Road Primary School for the East Cornwall Final of the Rosewarne Shield County Cup Competition. We were up against Newquay Junior School and it was an absolutely fantastic match. Our boys saved one of their best performances of the whole season for when it mattered. We started well and took the lead with a great goal from Alfie T. We continued creating chances but couldn’t convert them and went in at half time 1-0 up. Newquay equalised with a deflection before we went back on the offensive and eventually scored a brilliant team goal, which was finished superbly by Sid. However, Newquay equalised again before full time to make it 2-2. After ten minutes of extra time, it went to the dreaded penalty shoot-out. After a series of high quality spot kicks from both teams, we narrowly lost 5-4. Well done to the players for a great team performance and a huge thankyou to all of our amazing parents who helped take and support the boys.
Truro Primary Schools Netball league

Cornwall School Games Qualifier - QUAD KIDS
Well done to the children that entered the Quad Kids event at Carn Brea on Friday 11th May. Eight children from years 3 &4 competed. Every child had to enter four events: long jump, throw, sprint and long distance. They really enjoyed these activities and I am very proud of their effort and team work skills. The children dominated many of the events, particularly the track disciplines, they were extremely focused and behaved modestly, a real credit to ABB. We find out next week whether we qualify for the Cornwall School Games on 29th July. Thank you to all the parent support, particularly Mr and Mrs Robilliard who travelled down with us in the minibus.
